Day 2

Lots of progress, today! Thor ate at dinner time! Fredo is eating a lot! Wet food...I put a small dish out for both of them. He eats both. He likes it better, when the food is really mashed into tiny pieces. Or, if they are in chunks, he can't eat them. Thor, too.
They both let me know when they need to go potty. They get up and give me a look. I then ask if they need to go, as I get up. Fredo, gets up, with energy, today! More wag in his tail (hope)! Thor, is still weary, but, gets up to go. They go outside. Fredo went on the pad, in the house, 1 time, because I wasn't ready on time. He was a very good boy! Fredo smells the dogs and doesn't mind the cats.
Thor barks at the cats and sniffed the dogs, for the first time, tonight. He ate a good amount of food, at dinner. Maybe, 1/2 a cup. He drank some water, too. I haven't seen him go poop, yet. He has come out of his shell, a bit more, tonight.
Tonight- after I let them in from going potty, Fredo took the downward dog ( I want to play) stance, and wagged his tail. He and I were playing chase. He was barking, playfully. It was wonderful to see him open up, like he did! I wanted to cry...I was so happy! Then, they both climbed on my lap, for snuggles! It was a very special moment.
Tomorrow- get them to the vet!

Day 1

Yesterday, my family and I went to pick up Thor and Fredo. I knew they were Italian Greyhounds. What I did not know was what horrible shape they were in.
This is my very 1st time fostering. I have lots of expierence with IGs, because we had one for a long time. I wanted to do this, since we have a farm and the time.
I saw a picture of the dogs, weeks prior. They were beautiful! Today-I saw emaciated, scared, painful, helpless loves and my heart broke.
Thro-he had completely checked out! He had that blank stare....when someone's or an animals soul has given up. Such a beautiful boy...and, he was worse than sad. No emotion. He also had many surgeries and at the age of 14, very little vet care.
Fredo- first thing you notice....emaciated! Extremely skinny and a bad mouth problem. He is in extreme pain! Salivating, a gentle touch makes him cry. He needs his teeth pulled and antibiotics, quick! He is 12.
We drove to Conneticut, to meet with the most wonderful woman! She is involved with Italian Greyhound Rescue of New England. She had the 2, very scared loves. Who's owner just surrendered them. We got a lot of info and we met some amazing IGs!
The drive home went like this- Fredo, wrapped in his blanket, being held by me. Thor, in his bed, between the girls, in the back. I felt like I was holding a bag of bones. Fredo, put his head on my arm and when I pet him, he licked my hand. Thanking me. He kept looking back to make sure Thor was still there. He was.
They were on a way to a loving, caring home. Who will feed them, get them the care they need and get them to recover.
I fed them at home. Fredo was extremely hungry! He ate wet food. 3 scoops. They went potty, outside, and snuggled with me the rest of the night.
They like to sleep in the bed, too.
